Getting into Church...
If you are praying at Church during the day first see if there is someone in the office to let you in, or else click here to find out how to get in. If you are praying a night/early morning click here to find out how to get in.
If stuff goes wrong you can phone the 24-7 Emergency Bat Phone (07947 589912). Someone kind and helpful will answer, and make all your problems disappear.
WHY NOW?
There has been a sense for a while that God is about to move quickly, and we need to be ready. In the next short season we have New Wine, God Loves Peckham, new staff, new projects, and new school terms all upon us. During the Half-Night of Prayer last month we were shown the incredible strength and hope that comes from spending an extended time in prayer. We were given pictures for the Church and for Peckham, and God took us all individually to one side and spoke to our hearts. Everyone there left with the question, "why don't we do this more often?" So we thought maybe we should.
WHY YOU?
Some of us have been praying about this for while and 3 reasons were put on our hearts, and were reiterated during the Half-Night of Prayer:
Personal- Jesus called us first to a personal and intimate relationship with Him, which should come before all else. We often forget this, and have been reminded its about time we stop doing things in our own strength. When was the last time we were honest with God, told him we're tired, we don't understand, or are not in the mood to talk?!
Expectations- At what level do we set our expectations of God? Do we expect that if we prayed the Spirit would shake the room (Acts 4:31)? Do we expect that if we shout at walls with praise, they will come tumbling down (Joshua 6)? Do we expect God to meet with us personally, and speak to our very souls?
Radical- Will we go that extra mile? Will we be extreme? Do we do things that we know in our noahs are right, even if they sound wrong?
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The room at the back of All Saints will be set up for the seven days and set apart for All [of the] Saints to come before God. There will be books, CDs, pens, blank paper, poetry, spaces to record prayers and spaces to record answers to prayers. There is complete freedom to do whatever is on your heart, whether it is meditation or dancing with all your might. You have the freedom to do it as a group of friends, to have the space to yourself, or to set aside time and space to be a watchman from home.
We're not the first to have done a week of prayer, and the '24-7' idea has proved powerful because we set ourselves apart and saying to God, "I'm here, I'm listening." But 24-7 prayer is not a youth movement, its not a great idea, its one of God's ways of reminding us that prayer changes lives and even whole communities. So if any of the things above have been on your heart, we'd encourage you to sign up for one hour early in the week by filling in the the tables. Simply navigate to the day, click on the easy edit button, enter your name in the table and then click save.
